Duck race random picker

A random picker that is fun to watch: every name becomes a rubber duck, and the ducks race down the river to the finish line. The finishing order is drawn fairly the moment you press start; the five, ten or twenty seconds of swimming only reveal it, with a podium for the first three.

Type the names and start the race.

A draw everyone wants to watch to the end

A name popping out of nowhere is over in a blink. A race gives the room ten seconds to cheer, groan and shout at the screen, and the result feels earned.

Every name becomes a rubber duck in its own lane. Press start and the ducks swim to the chequered line, overtaking each other on the way.

The winner is still a fair random pick: the finishing order is drawn the moment you press start, and the race only plays it out.

How to run a duck race

Ready in under a minute.

  1. Type or paste the names, one per line.

  2. Choose 5, 10 or 20 seconds for the race.

  3. Press start and let the ducks swim.

  4. Read out the winner and the podium; race again for the next pick.

What it does

A random picker with a show attached.

  • Two to thirty ducks, one per name
  • Races of 5, 10 or 20 seconds
  • Ducks that overtake each other before the line
  • A podium for the first three
  • A list of past winners in this browser
  • The order drawn by a secure random generator
  • An instant result for people who turn off animations
  • Works on a phone, a laptop or a classroom screen

Popular for

Any draw where the build-up is half the fun.

Picking who answers first in class.

Giveaways on a stream or a work call.

Choosing who goes first in a game.

Prize draws at a party or school fair.

Deciding who makes the coffee.

Why the race is fair

When you press start, a secure random generator shuffles the names into a finishing order. That order is fixed before any duck moves.

Each duck then gets a finishing time from its place: the winner arrives first, the last duck at the end of the race. The wobble along the way is decoration; it never changes who crosses the line first.

Good to know

Names must be different; two ducks called the same would be impossible to tell apart.

The race runs in this browser only; it is not shared live with other screens.

Up to thirty ducks fit in the river at once.

Tips

  • Ten seconds is the sweet spot: long enough to cheer, short enough to repeat.
  • Put the screen where everyone can see it before you press start.
  • Remove the winner from the list if each person may win only once.

Can I make the race shorter?

Choose 5 seconds for a quick draw, or 20 for maximum suspense.

Can I use it for a giveaway on stream?

Yes, share your screen and run the race with the entrants' names.
