Can't say no: a question with a runaway No

A question page with a No button that cannot be pressed: write a question, choose the colours, background and button sizes, and get a short link. When the other person tries to press No, it jumps away, and Yes grows each time. After Yes they see your message, a picture or a link.

Will you go on a date with me?

Try to press No in the preview.

A question with only one possible answer

Some questions deserve a yes. This page asks yours with two buttons, and only one of them can be pressed: as soon as a cursor comes close or a finger touches No, the button jumps to another spot on the screen. With every escape Yes gets a little bigger and No a little smaller, until the answer is obvious.

You design the whole page: the question and a short description, the background as a colour, a gradient or your own picture, the text colour, and the colour, label and size of each button. The preview next to the form is the real page, so you can try to catch No yourself before you send it.

Pressing Yes opens what you prepared: a heading, a message, a picture, a link, or any mix of them. The link opens a page of its own in your colours, without the Roliq menus, so it feels like a card made just for that person.

How to make a can't-say-no link

Design first, then sign in to get the link.

  1. Write your question and, if you like, a short description. Choose the background, the text colour and how the Yes and No buttons look.

  2. Fill in what appears after Yes: a heading, a message, a picture from your device or an https link with its own label.

  3. Sign in and press Create the link. Copy it and send it in any messenger; later you can edit the page, see how often it was opened and delete it.

What you can change

Everything the other person sees.

  • Question and optional description
  • Background colour, two-colour gradient or your own picture
  • Text colour for the whole page
  • Colour, text colour, label and size of each button
  • No escapes the mouse and jumps away from a finger
  • Yes grows and No shrinks with each escape, or keep them the same size
  • After Yes: heading, message, picture and a link
  • Opens and Yes answers counted for each link

Where people use it

For questions that are more fun when no is not an option.

Asking someone on a date with a photo of the café waiting behind Yes.

A Valentine's card that ends with a message and a picture of the two of you.

Inviting friends to a birthday party, with the address link after Yes.

An office joke asking the team to order pizza for lunch.

A playful proposal to adopt a puppy, with the shelter's page after Yes.

Asking a friend to be a bridesmaid or best man.

How the No button escapes

With a mouse, the page watches the cursor: when it comes within reach of No, the button moves to a random spot on the screen, at least a good distance away and never on top of Yes. On a phone there is no hover, so the jump happens the moment a finger touches the button, before the tap can count. Pressing Enter or Space on No moves it too.

Each escape adds to a counter. Yes grows by about fifteen per cent per escape up to a limit, and No shrinks until it is less than half its size, so the page never becomes unusable. Turn this off and the buttons keep the sizes you chose.

Good to know

You need an account to create a link, so you can edit or delete it later. Your design stays in this browser while you sign in.

Pictures can be JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF up to 2 MB, and links must start with https. Each account can keep up to 200 questions.

Question pages are not shown in search results. Anyone who has the link can open it, so do not put anything private on it.

Tips

  • Keep the question short: it should fit on a phone screen in two or three lines.
  • Pick a No colour close to the background so it is less tempting, and a bright Yes.
  • Open the link on your own phone before sending it, and try to press No.

Questions about Can't say no

Can the other person press No at all?

No. With a mouse the button runs away before the cursor reaches it, and on a phone it jumps away as soon as it is touched.

Will I know if they said yes?

Yes. Your list of questions shows how many times each link was opened and how many times Yes was pressed.

What do they see after Yes?

Whatever you added: a heading, a message, a picture and a link. Fill in only the parts you need.

Can I change the page after sending the link?

Yes. Edit it from your list of questions; the link stays the same and shows the new version.

What does the link preview show in a messenger?

The question and the description. The answer behind Yes stays a surprise.

Does it cost anything?

No. Creating links is free; you only need an account.
