Make your own online scratch card

A scratch card you make yourself: write the surprise, hide it under a gold, silver or coloured layer and send a short link. The other person scratches it off with a finger or the mouse and sees your message, picture or link.

Surprise

A surprise they uncover with a finger

A scratch card turns a message into a small moment. You write the surprise and hide it under a shiny layer; the other person opens your link and scratches the layer away with a finger or the mouse until the surprise shows through.

You choose everything they see: the heading above the card, the page background as a colour, a gradient or your own picture, the shape of the card (a classic card, a heart or a circle), and the layer itself in gold, silver, rose gold or any colour, with a short line printed on it.

Under the layer goes the surprise: a heading and a picture on the card, then a message and a link that appear once it is scratched. The preview in the builder is the real card, so you can scratch it yourself before sending.

How to make a scratch card

Design the card, then sign in for its link.

  1. Write the heading that appears above the card. Choose the background, the shape and the scratch layer, and edit the line printed on it.

  2. Fill in the surprise under the layer: a heading, a picture from your device, a message and, if you like, an https link with its own label.

  3. Sign in and press Create the link. Send it in any messenger; later you can edit the card, see how often it was opened and scratched, and delete it.

What you can change

Everything on the card and around it.

  • Heading and optional description above the card
  • Page background: colour, two-colour gradient or your own picture
  • Card shape: card, heart or circle
  • Scratch layer in gold, silver, rose gold or any colour
  • Your own line printed on the layer
  • Card colour and text colour under the layer
  • Surprise with heading, picture, message and link
  • Opens and scratches counted for each link

Where people use it

Any news that is better uncovered than read.

A birthday present revealed as “You’re going to the concert!”, with the ticket link.

A Valentine’s heart that hides a photo and a dinner reservation.

Telling the family “We’re having a baby!” under a gold layer.

A weekend trip announced to a partner on a Friday morning.

A teacher’s reward card for a class that finished the reading challenge.

A New Year card with a wish under every scratch.

How the scratching works

The layer is drawn on top of the card in the browser. Every stroke of a finger or the mouse clears a wide line through it, and the page keeps checking how much of the layer is gone. Once more than half has been scratched, the rest fades away, a little confetti falls and the message and link appear below the card.

On a phone, scratching does not scroll the page, so the card stays put under the finger. A Show everything button under the card reveals the surprise at once for anyone who cannot or does not want to scratch.

Good to know

You need an account to create a link, so you can edit or delete it later. Your card stays in this browser while you sign in.

Pictures can be JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF up to 2 MB, and links must start with https. Phone photos are made smaller before upload.

Scratch card pages are not shown in search results. Anyone who has the link can open the card, so do not hide anything private under it.

Tips

  • Keep the heading on the card short: it should be readable at a glance once the layer is gone.
  • Gold on a dark background or rose gold on pink looks the most like a real lottery ticket.
  • Scratch your own card in the preview before sending, then press Cover it again.

Scratch card questions

Is it free?

Yes. Making scratch cards and links is free; you only need an account.

Can they see the surprise without scratching?

Only with the Show everything button under the card. Otherwise it appears as they scratch.

Does scratching work on a phone?

Yes. Use one finger; the page does not scroll while you scratch the card.

Will I know they opened it?

Your list of cards shows how many times each link was opened and how many times the card was scratched.

Can I change the card after sending the link?

Yes. Edit it from your list; the link stays the same.

Does the link preview give the surprise away?

The heading and description above the card, never the surprise under the layer.
