Deal Mafia roles without a card deck

Role cards for Mafia without a deck: set how many mafia, a don, a doctor, a detective and a maniac, and deal them by passing one phone or by a private link per player. Mafia members see each other on their cards. The host gets the night order and, when needed, a sheet of who is who.

Set the roles, deal them, and the host gets the night order and a sheet of who is who.

Party game

Every player gets a secret role in seconds

Mafia needs one thing before it starts: secret roles that nobody else sees. Instead of hunting for a card deck or writing roles on scraps of paper, set the roles here and deal them.

Choose how many mafia members, and whether there is a don, a doctor, a detective and a maniac. A balanced setup is suggested for the number of players, and the rest are civilians.

Deal by passing one phone round the table, or send each player their own link. Mafia members see who else is on their team, just as when they wake together on the first night.

How to deal and run a game

The host does not need to know the roles to deal them.

  1. Enter the players' names or just their number, and adjust the suggested roles if you like.

  2. Deal: each player looks at their card alone, or opens their private link.

  3. The host reads the night order from the screen: the city falls asleep, the mafia wakes, and so on.

  4. By day, start the one-minute timer for each speech, then vote.

What the host gets

The parts of the game that usually need paper.

  • Mafia, don, doctor, detective, maniac and civilians
  • A balanced setup for four to thirty players
  • Pass-the-phone dealing with each card hidden again
  • A private link per player for video calls
  • Mafia members see their team on the card
  • The night order for the roles in this game
  • A one-minute speech timer
  • A sheet of all roles behind a separate button

When it helps

Wherever a group wants to play Mafia right now.

A birthday party with friends who have never played.

A Mafia night on a video call, roles sent by link.

A school camp or youth club evening.

A team event where nobody brought cards.

A club that wants fresh deals quickly between rounds.

How the deal works

The roles are shuffled in your browser with a secure random source, so each player is equally likely to get any role.

The setup refuses deals where the mafia would start with half the players or more, and fills the remaining places with civilians.

Good to know

The game itself — discussion, nights and votes — happens out loud; the page deals roles and helps the host.

The device that deals can show every role, so a host who also plays should not open the role sheet.

House rules differ; the role descriptions follow the most common version.

Tips for hosts

  • For a first game, leave out the maniac and keep one don.
  • Read the night order slowly and keep your eyes closed too, if you play.
  • Give everyone the same speech time; the timer keeps it fair.

Mafia role questions

How many mafia should there be?

About one for every three or four players. The suggested setup does this for you.

Can players get their Mafia role on their own phones?

Yes. The host chooses private links and sends each player theirs; a link opens only its owner's role card.

Do mafia members know each other?

Yes. Their cards show the names of the other mafia members.

What does the don do?

The don leads the mafia and, in this version, also checks at night whether someone is the detective.

Can the host play too?

Yes, as long as they do not open the sheet of all roles.

Is the Mafia role generator free?

Yes. Nobody needs an account or an app, not even the host.
