A chore rota that rotates by itself

A chore rota that moves on by itself: list the people and the chores, choose a change every day or every week, and everyone moves one chore along each turn. Today's or this week's jobs come with ticks, and the next turns are ready to print.

Fair chores without the arguing

The fridge chart works until someone forgets whose week it is. A rota that moves on by itself keeps it fair: everyone does every chore in turn.

List the people and the chores, choose whether they change every day or every week, and pick a start date. Each turn, everyone moves one chore along.

This turn's chores come with ticks, and the next four turns sit in a table ready to print.

How to make a chore rota

Two lists and a date.

  1. Type the people, one per line.

  2. Type the chores, one per line.

  3. Choose a change every day or every week and the start date.

  4. Tick chores as they are done and print the rota for the fridge.

What the rota does

A chart that keeps itself up to date.

  • Up to 30 people and 30 chores
  • Daily or weekly turns from any start date
  • Everyone moves one chore along each turn
  • Ticks for this turn that reset on the next
  • A free turn shown when there are more people than chores
  • The next four turns in a printable table
  • Saved in this browser, no account
  • Works on a phone or a kitchen tablet

Used by

Anyone sharing the work.

Flatmates and roommates.

Families sharing housework with children.

Office kitchens and coffee duty.

Classroom jobs and monitors.

Volunteer and club duty lists.

How the rotation works

Chore number one goes to the first person, chore two to the second, and so on. Each turn everyone shifts by one, so over as many turns as there are people, each person does every chore.

With more chores than people, the list wraps around and some people take two. With more people than chores, the people left over get a free turn, and it moves on like everything else.

Good to know

The rota lives in this browser; each device keeps its own copy, so print it or use one shared device.

Ticks are for this turn only and clear when the next one starts.

There are no reminders; the rota shows the current turn whenever you open it.

Tips

  • Put the heaviest chores first so they spread evenly.
  • Weekly turns suit flats; daily turns suit classrooms and small jobs.
  • Reprint after changing the list so the fridge copy stays right.
