Random letter generator

A letter for Scattergories, word games or spelling practice.

23

Word games need a starting letter that nobody chose: Scattergories, a round of naming animals, or a spelling quiz for the class. Spin this wheel and the letter is picked for you, in front of everyone.

The wheel holds 23 letters. Q, X and Z are left out because few answers start with them; type them back in if your group likes a challenge, or delete any letter that keeps stalling the game.

Each letter once per game

After a letter comes up, press Remove from the wheel in the result pop-up, and it cannot come up again in the same game. When every round is played, Restore all puts the whole alphabet back for the next game.

A timer for each round

Set an answer timer of, say, 60 seconds in the wheel's settings. The countdown starts the moment the letter appears and sounds when time is up, so nobody has to watch a clock while also writing answers.

Random letter questions

Why are some letters missing?

Q, X and Z start very few words, which makes rounds frustrating. Add them back on new lines of the list if you want them.

Can a letter come up twice?

Only if you leave it on the wheel. Remove each letter after it wins and every letter comes up at most once per game.

Is every letter equally likely?

Yes, unless you change the weights. With equal weights every letter on the wheel has the same chance.
