How fortunes are chosen
At the table the notes are shuffled with a secure random generator and drawn one by one; the jar refills only when it is empty.
By name, the fortune comes from the name and the year, so asking again gives the same answer until next year.

These are for fun, not predictions anyone should plan around.
A sent fortune lives inside its link: whoever has the link can read it.

Will the same fortune come twice?
Not until every note in the jar has been drawn.
Why does a name always get the same fortune?
It is worked out from the name and the year, so the answer stays the same until next year.
How does sending by link work?
The fortune is stored inside the link itself; the friend opens it and unfolds the note.
Do the New Year fortunes cost anything?
Yes, and there is nothing to install.
